Congratulations to all of us and especially the Accounting Department for surviving our audit this week! They felt lots of support from around the agency and worked great together to get everything the auditors needed. The auditor told me that we've got a good team that works well together. We won't get the final report back for several weeks but whatever the final result, thanks to the accounting team. Thanks to everyone else too for continuing to focus on doing a great job for the communities and families we serve.
Several of us attended the Missouri CAN conference in Springfield, MO this week. They did a good job of mixing up the workshops so that there was something for everyone. There was a general session on emotional intelligence, and a wide variety of workshops that support the work we do at every level. I went to a very exciting (not) workshop on "Complying with the HR and Financial Directives of the new Organizational Standards" and will share elements of it with the Leadership Team. If you work with anyone that attended, ask them what they got out of it. We'll make sure to give them opportunities to present what they learned at various staff meetings over the next month.
I'm pleased to report that I adopted a koala bear at the Missouri CAN auction! Her name is Lilly and she lives in a wildlife preserve in Australia. We'll get her registered with CMCA as her "parent" for the next six months and I'll report on her well being. I couldn't help myself!
Last, Mia Birdsong was the keynote speaker on the last day of the conference. Her 2015 TED talk titled, "The Story We Tell About Poverty Isn't True" has been viewed over 1.4 million times, has been published in the Stanford Social Innovation Review, Salon, and On Being and she has guest lectured at UC Berkeley. If you've got 15 minutes, I think you'll enjoy her message.
Have a great weekend!
